James started his pilates journey in Australia 14 years ago. He began learning yoga and pilates simultaneously for rehabilitation of his lower back and knee injury. These injuries came about from many years of practicing ballet as well as musical dance. His interest in becoming a qualified instructor grew from finding out about the benefits in terms of stability and body awareness through pilates. He realised that he had a stronger core, back, shoulders not to mention a well aligned body. He recommends pilates highly for individuals that do sports.
He is a qualified body pump instructor as well. He uses his theoretical knowledge in pilates to create body awareness among his students. He mentioned that pilates was not popular in Malaysia when he started out. Pilates has been in the States as well as European countries for over 15 years. Pilates was still rather new in Asia at the time. Most Malaysians were swept away with the yoga phenomena when he was pursuing pilates. He wants to bring awareness to people that pilates is effective in terms of post rehab exercise as well. In fact, chiropractors strongly advice post rehab patients to practice pilates.
How did pilates grow in Malaysia? It started with a small group of certified yoga instructors with strong knowledge in body anatomy. James mentioned that many others in Malaysia undergo pilates training but do not get professional certification. They lack the theoretical knowledge required in teaching pilates effectively.
James is conducting a Pilates Therapy Workshop at Surya Yoga on June 16th. He will be highlighting pilates therapy for common post rehab conditions such as slip disc, backache, shoulder ache, neck pain as well as other common conditions that working people suffer from. He will also put some detailed attention to those with scoliosis. Participants will be able to gain detailed knowledge of pilates and its therapeutic effects it has for the body. He will also educate participants on common exercises that can be practiced at home to ease common pains and ailments.
In addition to learning about pilates therapy, James will be adding a special bonus segment on trigger point massage. Trigger point massage helps with muscles entangled in the body. This personal skill James acquired will help bring awareness to people that have conditions that need personal care and attention. He provides personal sessions at a special rate.
