Meditation and Pranayama Class

Meditation in its simplest form, is nothing more than allowing the mind to be lulled by a simple repetitive sensation (eg. waves lapping on the beach).

Meditation puts worry and anxiety on the back-burner for a while. Put simply, meditation is me-time in its purest form: it is just being and letting the world around you just be as well.

Meditation allows us to take stock of our inbuilt ideas about things, is also effective in combating health problems other than those that are stress-related. 

Yoga breathing is called pranayama. 'Prana' means 'breath of life' and 'ayama' means 'interval' so combined it means 'the interruption of breath'. 

Breath, as well we all know, is the stuff of life. Without it we die. Yogis regard breath as much more than the element oxygen; to them it is the force that connects us with the life-force of the universe. 

Correct breathing unblocks the channels of energy that run through the body, and balances the negative and positive forces, the masculine and feminine, yin and yang within us.

Holding the breath
The alternate nostril breath
The buzzing bee
The bellows breath
The cooling breath
The victorious breath (ujjayi)
The cleansing breath (kapalabhati)
